“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.”
Proverbs 4:23 NLT
Have you ever noticed how our attitudes towards people and even authority can change at the simplest of events? We can be displeased with some decisions or actions of a person close to us and it can begin to colour how we think of them.
We can allow our attitudes to impact and determine the course of our life negatively or positively. What are you allowing to pierce your heart and get through your defences? Is it what you heard about someone? What you perceive about a situation? Or possibly someone wronged you and you now hold a grudge.
The Bible is clear on the impact of the heart. Out of the overflow of the heart, the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45). What have we allowed to get into our hearts?
There are three steps to obtaining a clear heart and removing attitudes that don’t belong there.
1. ACKNOWLEDGE that you have an attitude towards something. Identifying the issue is the first step.
2. ASK for forgiveness. Clearing the attitude out of the way for restoration.
3. ABSORB the Word of God. Thy Word I have hid in my heart that I might not sin against you (Psalm 119:11). It’s hard for weeds to grow where there is an abundance of good grass.
Our heart controls so much. What’s your heart towards people, family, leaders and church? It’s a question we need to check often.
We love you church!
