Be Anxious for nothing.
I have been considering lately the rise of anxiety in society and even among the people of our church. I think at times like this, when as a community and a state we are headed into harsher restrictions ,it is easy to allow fear and anxiety have it’s way with us.
But the bible teaches us that there is a better way.
Philippians 4 MSG 6-7 Don’t fret or worry. Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers, letting God know your concerns. Before you know it, a sense of God’s wholeness, everything coming together for good, will come and settle you down. It’s wonderful what happens when Christ displaces worry at the centre of your life.
What this is not saying is that you won’t have things happen that will concern you, but rather, when you do, give them to God. Instead of worry (which actually never helped anyone anyway) replace worry with Christ. What an incredible thought that we can not only give Him our cares, but He can replace our worries.
This is what Philippians 4 goes on to say. 8-9 Summing it all up, friends, I’d say you’ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious—the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse. Put into practice what you learned from me, what you heard and saw and realized. Do that, and God, who makes everything work together, will work you into his most excellent harmonies.
If there are things around you that are dragging you into a spiral of negativity and worry and concern, flip the switch on those things. Turn off the TV and turn on a faith filled message. Turn off Facebook and tune into the Psalms. Turn off the noise and replace it with heavenly worship. Let’s understand that we serve a God who is above all, in all, through it all.
We love you church and are praying for you.
